👑 Why Yamba is Worth Your Crown
Let me say this up front: Yamba isn’t trying to impress you.
It’s not loud, not flashy, and definitely not trying to be the next Byron.
It doesn’t need to be.
Because what Yamba is… is effortlessly magical.
🏖️ The Vibe
There’s a kind of peace here that you can’t describe—you just feel it.
It’s the kind of place where:

  • You go out for bread and come back three hours later because you ran into three people and ended up having a flat white, a walk, and a deep chat about mango season.

  • You remember your neighbour’s name. And their dog’s name. And their grandchild’s birthday.

  • You stop wearing a watch, because... what’s the rush?

It’s calm. It’s community. It’s coastal gold.

But Why Yamba?

The Locals Choice

🌅 The Lifestyle

Yamba is for early risers and slow sippers.
For long walks and longer lunches.
For doing exactly what you want—or nothing at all.
On any given day you can:

  • Walk the cliffs at Angourie like you’re starring in a travel ad

  • Hit the local markets and get fresh everything

  • Join a U3A class, volunteer, or just sit on your balcony with a book and a smug little grin

And when you’re ready?
There are clubs, classes, community groups and coffee catch-ups ready to welcome you like family.

💰 The Cost of Living

One of the best parts? You don’t need to be mega-wealthy to live a mega-good life here.
Yes, housing has gone up (everywhere has), but you can still find charming homes and sea-breezy units that don’t require a lottery win.
Weekly budgets stretch further. You’ll pay less for:

  • Groceries (local produce = cheaper + tastier)

  • Health services

  • Entertainment (sunsets are free, darling)

❤️ The People

This is where Yamba truly wins.
It’s full of characters. Kind ones. Quirky ones. Slightly odd ones who knit things for random trees.
You’ll make friends fast here. You’ll feel part of something.
And let me tell you—retirement with connection hits very different than retirement alone.
👑 Final Verdict?
If you’re looking for a place that lets you breathe, laugh, connect, and actually live—Yamba might just be your forever throne.

Calling Yamba Home for 6+ Years

About Me

Hello,

I’d like to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about how I came to live on the sunny east coast of NSW.

I’m a born and bred Tasmanian who until 10 years ago had never lived outside state. I have a daughter who lives in Hobart in Tasmania with her partner and my 3 year old granddaughter.

My career has been a combination of administration roles in the finance, legal, utility and real estate entities and I continue to work part time in an administrative role.

In December 2015 I found myself on my own for the first time in 25 years and decided a complete change was needed.

I resigned from my long standing job, I packed everything I owned into a container and put it in storage. Filled my little old car to the brim with necessities and hoped on the Spirit of Tasmania and sailed to Melbourne. As the ferry pulled out of the port, I was sad, but looking forward to a totally unknown future. I had no job to go to, no destination to go to, no where to live lined up, I just went.

After a few years of rambling I found a myself in

the beachside town of Yamba in the Northern Rivers district.

A few years ago I decided to settle in this area and consequently I purchased a little house in an over 55’s lifestyle village.

I want to share about my knowledge and experiences of village life.
